Grant Writer (Independent Contractor)

The Growing Project is seeking an experienced grant writer to assist our 501(c)(3) non-profit in drafting and submitting successful grant applications. The Grant Writer will work alongside the Board of Directors and staff on a contract basis to draft and submit grants to support our programming, operations, and goals.

Application deadline: Wednesday, April 5, 2023
Intended start date: mid-April to early May
Job type: Part-time independent contractor with an anticipated average of 6-8 hours/week (possibly up to 10 hours of work per week)
Compensation: $28.50/hour, plus internet/cellphone/travel stipend

Our volunteer board of directors works with TGP staff to do strategic planning for our future, develop and approve our annual budget, and serve as spokespeople for our work. Having a diverse and active board is an important part of our organizational structure, and we conduct our main board recruitment once per year, with new board member terms starting in March. Our board application is open from January 1st to February 1st each year. As that time approaches each year, please help us spread the word to those you know who may be interested. Nuestra junta directiva voluntaria trabaja con el personal de TGP para hacer la planificación estratégica para nuestro futuro, desarrollar y aprobar nuestro presupuesto anual y servir como portavoces de nuestro trabajo. Tener una junta diversa y activa es una parte importante de nuestra estructura organizativa, y llevamos a cabo nuestro reclutamiento de la junta principal una vez al año, con nuevos términos de miembros de la junta a partir de marzo. Time commitment: 5-10 hours/month
Modality of commitment: Given ongoing covid concerns we currently conduct meetings via virtual platforms, but look forward to meeting in person, at least occasionally, if/when it’s safe to do so. In-person activities take place at various locations around Fort Collins. We try to make meetings as accessible as possible when it comes to things like scheduling, transportation for in-person gatherings, and similar.
Term length: two years (with the option to renew at the end of your term)


Promote the needs of those TGP works with, advocate for their interests, and on their behalf, hold TGP accountable.
Actively participate in, and take responsibility for, decision-making on budgets, policies, hiring of TGP Executive Director, and other matters. Speak up if you have ideas, questions, or concerns.
Attend at least 75% of board meetings, committee meetings, strategic planning retreats, and special events.
Actively participate in at least one committee while serving on the board.
Promote TGP’s work and values to the community and act as a spokesperson.
Excuse yourself from discussions and votes where you have a conflict of interest.
